The practice.
Paula McGeown is the Principal Lawyer of Inicio Legal, ABN 21 875 126 166. The practice is based in Victoria and works with clients across Australia and overseas.
Professional status and practising entitlements can be checked through the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner’s register. A qualification in another country is not a statement of unrestricted authority to practise there.
Engagement and costs.
Website information and an enquiry do not, by themselves, create a solicitor–client relationship. We must agree to act and confirm the scope and terms of the engagement.
Fees, the scope of work and relevant disbursements are addressed before chargeable work begins. Your engagement documents set out the applicable arrangements and costs information. Government charges and third-party fees are distinct from professional fees.
Intellectual property work.
Dr Phil Jeffrey holds UK and European patent attorney qualifications. The scope and professional capacity relevant to a particular instruction must be confirmed at engagement.
Inicio does not hold itself out as a firm of registered Australian patent attorneys. Where registered Australian patent attorney involvement is required, that needs to be arranged. Any jurisdiction-specific representation is subject to appropriate authority.
Professional arrangements.
Liability limited by a scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation.
Your engagement documents identify the professional capacity, scope, costs and applicable terms for the instruction.
Confidentiality, conflicts and independence.
We consider conflicts before accepting instructions and handle information subject to the professional obligations that apply. Do not assume an unsolicited email creates an engagement or send another person’s confidential information without discussing the matter with us.
The scope of any referral or other professional involvement is explained in the context of the engagement.
